Orthotics and Their Role in Foot Health: Custom Solutions for Various Conditions

July 26, 2025 admin Comments Off on Orthotics and Their Role in Foot Health: Custom Solutions for Various Conditions

Do you have foot problems? Do your feet hurt all the time? If so, you need to discover the benefits of orthotics. This common treatment, available from your podiatrist, can help you enjoy healthy feet. Orthotics can treat a wide variety of foot conditions.

What You Need To Know About Orthotics

The type of orthotics available at your local pharmacy or grocery store are helpful to cushion your feet, but they don’t do much to help correct foot issues and relieve pain. For lasting relief from foot problems, you need custom orthotics, fitted by your podiatrist.

Orthotics are an excellent treatment solution for:

  • People with diabetes, because orthotics can help relieve painful nerve issues like diabetic neuropathy
  • People with arthritis, because orthotics can provide cushion and support for painful bones and joints
  • People who are overweight, because orthotics can help relieve foot stress brought on by carrying excess weight

Custom orthotics can provide relief from a wide range of foot, ankle, and toe problems, including:

  • Fallen arches, by providing arch, heel, and ball-of-foot support
  • Hammertoes, by helping to realign toes and toe joints
  • Bunions, by cushioning the bunion and helping to realign your big toe joint and foot
  • Plantar fasciitis, by providing support and cushion to protect the heels of your feet
  • Gait problems, to help correct balance, posture, and walking issues

Orthotics are constructed of several different materials. Your podiatrist can help you choose the type of orthotic which is best for you. Orthotic types include:

  • Soft orthotics made entirely of soft materials, to aid in balance, provide cushion for your feet, and absorb the stress of walking or standing
  • Semi-rigid orthotics made of a combination of both hard and soft materials, to aid in balance and provide support and cushion for your feet if you are a runner or active person
  • Rigid orthotics made entirely of hard materials, to provide stability, relieve strained tendons, and limit joint motion
